VISION HÉLICOÏDALE
…

HELICAL VISION
When, this summer, in the midst of a heat wave, an old friend assured me he’d seen giant snails right in the middle of a field that had just been harvested, a more-than-skeptical pout naturally formed on my lips. His must have been clouded by some anise-flavored drink… That was the second conclusion that raced through my prefrontal cortex; the first involved my friend’s overexposure to the August sun. A logical assumption: my friend had simply suffered from heatstroke. This, in turn, had triggered his visual hallucinations in the form of titanic gastropods. What could be more credible, after all? Not sharing this view at all (whether regarding the supposed effects of the sun or those of alcohol), my friend pledged, in front of witnesses, to provide irrefutable proof of his good faith. Indeed, convinced that his testimony would be doubted, he had taken care to photograph the incredible spectacle he had witnessed that day. Without a doubt, the famous photo silenced all the skeptics.
